Up Yours! A Few Words In Support of Colonoscopies

A few weeks ago, I had a colonoscopy, and I forgot to talk about it until now. It was the last part of my over 50 well male physical and a very important part. Many people die from colon cancer when, due to the slow way it grows, a simple procedure like a colonoscopy can discover it before it is fatal.

The colonoscopy itself is not very difficult or distasteful. The preparation, on the other hand, can be a bit much, but it is also very tolerable. I think the major problem that most Americans have with the procedure is the taboo of having to do with anything coming out of the exiting end of the human food process. However, it is also the easiest way to get a good look at the colon to make sure that everything is as it should be.

The procedure itself took less than an hour, the preparation the 24 hours before. The preparation is a simple matter of drinking a rather foul tasting liquid that went straight through the body carrying anything that is in your digestive track with it. — Oh boy! Also, you're not allowed to eat during that same 24 hours.

In the end, the results were that everything was okay and I am doing fine and I don't have to go back for five years. Yea, Me!

One of the few things that I found worthwhile regarding the ACA is that routine screening tests like this are completely covered. . Anyone with insurance now has this covered regardless of the plan.

If you are over 50, male or female, and you haven't had a colonoscopy, make an appointment with your doctor to have it done. If not for your own sake, then for the sake of those that are counting on you to be around for a long — long time. I know the world is a more interesting place with you when it  and I want to keep you there.

Now that I've done my part for the public good by coming out in favor of colonoscopies; I'll resume my normal posting of irrelevant and funny stuff that crosses my mind.  You have been warned.
